Before surgery
You may have to have a physical examination to make sure you are healthy. Be sure to discuss any current medications you’re taking. You may have to fast for 12-14 hours before surgery.
When you arrive at the clinic on the day of surgery, you’ll be ‘prepped’; an IV will be inserted and you’ll be given anesthetic to put you to sleep.
During surgery
Once you’re sedated, the surgeon will make the necessary incision. There are several options as to the location of the incision, including the armpit, the crease under the breast or the areola. Your surgeon will discuss which option is best for you well before the surgery.
Once the incision has been made, either saline implants or silicone gel implants are inserted (again, your surgeon will discuss which option is best). The incisions are then closed with either sutures or surgical tape.
After surgery
Sutures or stiches are removed 7-10 days after surgery, and you can expect to go back to work after one week.
