Many of us get back pain and choose to ignore it. After all, it’s only some pain, and it usually goes away. However, while this is the case a lot of the time, sometimes it is something much more serious. If you are experiencing pain anywhere in your back or spinal area, and the following three examples sound anything like your case, you should consult your doctor.
Most back pain you can trust to fade away in about an hour or two, as you’ve most likely just bent or twisted a way that your back disagreed with. If it lasts a few hours after that and doesn’t seem like it’s going away, take some pain medicine and sleep it off. If it continues after that, or even starts feeling worse, call your doctor and set up an appointment.
Back Pain Following Physical Trauma
If you’ve been in a car accident, or hit your back after a long fall and it starts hurting afterwards, tell your doctor immediately. The injury has most likely injured something in your back, and the doctor will have to take immediate action. Do not ignore pain like this under any circumstances.
Back Pain Combined with Physical Abnormalities
Your spine is where all the electrical signals from your nerves come from and go through to get to the rest of the body. As such, severe pain in your back and spinal area can spread to nearby parts of your body, like your legs. If the pain has gotten to this point, you should be at the doctor ASAP.
Also, be equally prepared if the hurt area goes numb. Doubly so if other parts of the body start going numb as well. This could potentially be a sign of something happening with your spine, and needs medical attention immediately.
Finally, if your back experiences other physical changes accompanying the pain, you should bring this up to your doctor as well. These include, but are not limited to: Swelling and redness around the hurt area, fever, unintentional weight loss, numbness in the legs, and trouble urinating.
Back pain comes in all forms and severities, and while many of those can be fixed with some pain meds and a good night’s rest, others will require a much more thorough look. If you are in need of spine pain treatment in Jacksonville area, call your doctor to see what treatment is right for you.
